Alan Rachins (Born 1942 in Cambridge, MA)
The name might not ring a bell to you right away but you will quickly recognize this under-appreciated actor. Alan Rachins is probably best known for his two distinctly different characters that he portrayed on “LA LAW” and “DHARMA and GREG”. On “L.A. LAW’ he played Lawyer Douglas Brackman Jr, a pompous, arrogant jerk of epic proportions. On “Dharma and Greg” he played Dharma’s stuck in the 60′s father Larry Finklestein,a burned out hippie who’s brain is literally fried from all the illegal substances he did in his younger days. They are complete polar opposite characters. That the same actor was able to pull both roles off so well is a testament to what a great actor Alan Rachins is. He continues to work steadily on TV and in movies so keep your eye out for him. He is a member of MENSA.
While researching celebrity addresses, I came upon Alan Rachin’s website (alanrachins.com). The excellent website has a very visible “contact” link which allows you to send an e-mail directly to him. I let him know how much I enjoyed his work and sent him a quick e-mail this last week. Today, I received the autographed photo pictured here. He also sent me a small note letting me know of a YOU TUBE video of his that I should check out. This video can be found by typing in Hollywood Helpers on YOU TUBE. This is a short video that Mr. Rachins wrote and directed along with playing all 3 characters himself. It is real good so check it out when you can.
