Karl Malden (Born 1912 in Chicago, IL)
Karl Malden (1912-2009) was a Academy Award and Emmy Award winning American Actor. In a movie career that started in 1940, Malden went on to star in such films as “A Streetcar named Desire”, “On the Waterfront”, “Fear Strikes out”, “How the West was won”, “The Cincinnati Kid”, “Patton”, “Meteor”, “The Sting 2″, “Nuts”, and countless others. His Television resume includes the starring role in the popular 70′s crime-drama “The Streets of San Francisco” to appearances on shows ranging including “The West Wing”. He won the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 1952 for “A Streetcar named Desire”. He was nominated for 5 Emmy Awards in his career with one win, and was also nominated for 3 Golden Globe Awards. Karl will always hold a special place in my memories. I started collecting autographs in October of 2008. I was a huge “Streets of San Francisco” fan and decided to write to Karl Malden for my first attempt at getting an autograph. I mailed him a blank index card, which he promptly returned signed along with another card of his own. I wrote to him again a few weeks later and he promptly sent me the signed photo above. He was known to be a very kind and generous man to all his many fans. He died July 1st, 2009 at the age of 97. He was a great actor and a great man and will be greatly missed by all.
