Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin is the former Governor of the State of Alaska. She was the Vice-Presidential running mate of Senator John McCain in the Republican bid for the Presidency in the 2008 Election. She rose to fame after McCain had picked the virtual unknown politician with very little political experience to be his running mate. The Governor had served as mayor of her small Alaska town before being elected Governor less than 2 years before Senator McCain added her to the GOP ticket. She came under great scrutiny when she did a series of national television interviews in which she appeared woefully unprepared and inexperienced for a person who aspired to be one step away from being President of the United States. She quickly became a source of great ridicule, culminating in a scathing series of satirical sketches by Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live which attracted great ratings for the show and tons of unwanted publicity on the Governor. The Saturday Night Live sketches were even more powerful in that they many times used the actual words spoken by Governor Palin in actual interviews, a tactic which greatly exposed how idiotic much of her campaign appeared to be. When Senator McCain lost the Election to Barack Obama, many in the GOP ranks blamed Governor Palin and her poor showing for the loss while others blamed Senator McCain and his advisers for picking the Governor in the first place. Still, with all this controversy, her hard-line, right-wing, conservative beliefs made her a Superstar to the conservative factions of the Republican Party and she continues to enjoy tremendous popularity to this day. She is considered one of the early Republican front-runners for the 2012 nomination for President. By November of 2009 she was embarking on a national book-signing tour to hype the release of her new Memoir, “Going Rogue”.

**Update** July 3rd, 2009 – Governor Palin held a hastily called news conference and announced that she is resigning as Governor of the State of Alaska effective July 26th, 2009. As to her political future, it is now very clouded.
