Emma Thompson (Born 1959 in London, England) is an Academy Award, Emmy Award, and Golden Globe Award winning British Actress and Writer. In a career that began in England in 1982, she has appeared in dozens of films including “Howards End”, “Much Ado About Nothing”, “Remains of the Day”, “In the Name of the Father”, “Carrington”, “Sense and Sensibility”, “Primary Colors”, “Wit”, “Love Actually”, “Angels in America”, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban”, “I am Legend”, “Nanny McPhee”, “Stranger than Fiction”, “Last Chance Harvery” and many others. She has been nominated for 4 Academy Awards, winning the 1993 Best Actress Oscar for “Howards End” and the 1996 Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for “Sense and Sensibility”. She has been nominated for 4 Emmy Awards with one win and has been nominated for 8 Golden Globe Awards with 2 career wins. She is the only person to have won Academy Awards in both acting and writing categories.
