John Sebastian (born 1944 in New York, NY) is an American Singer/Songwriter best known as the Founder and lead singer of the popular 1960′s band “The Lovin Spoonful”. The group charted ten Top-40 hits during the 60′s including “Do you believe in Magic?”, “Daydream”, “Summer in the City”, “You didn’t have to be so nice”, “Did you ever have to make up your mind?” and many others. The Lovin Spoonful were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. John Sebastian was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008. After leaving the Lovin Spoonful in 1968, he performed solo at the famed Woodstock Festival and later, he charted a solo hit in 1976 with the song “Welcome Back” which was used as the opening theme for the popular 70′s sitcom “Welcome Back Kotter”.
